These long-term investment themes, together with others which are identified and routinely debated by the investment team, drive our product development, asset allocation and portfolio construction. These secular trends are long-term in nature, expected to fully develop over a five to ten year horizon. They provide useful reference points for us when forming our views of where to dedicate our resources and, ultimately, where to allocate our clients’ money.

Tactical short-term overlay

That said, we are acutely aware that markets do not only react to long-term trends. To allow for short-term fluctuations we often employ a tactical overlay. This creates a framework to operate within which reflects the realities of the high correlation environment we are currently in.
